Apple Watch users could soon be treated with new Maps app enhancements with the forthcoming release of the watchOS 2.2.

Word on the street has it that the Cupertino-based company has thrown in a slew of nifty features on the native Maps app on its smart timepiece, including accessible Search, quick navigation and Nearby functionalities.

Apple previously added the Nearby functionality into the Maps app in iOS 9. This handy feature is now making its way to the new version of the watchOS. The moment watchOS 2.2 is already rolled out to the public, users will then be able to locate close-by places offering food, shopping, drinks, health and more. Choosing a category will lead you to a more specific listing. For instance, the list will show off business names, location, distance, hours of operation and even star ratings.

The Nearby feature has also arrived in CarPlay via the new beta software Apple pushed out this week.

It also seems that Apple has packed in quick navigation buttons for travel directions to your work or home from your present location.

Additionally, the update could likewise bring in a new improvement into its Search functionality. Search on the Maps app could be more accessible to Apple Watch owners down the road and users could no longer be required to use Force Touch to launch it.

If users wish to access the old Maps view, they could use the My Location button located just underneath Search.

Moreover, it is believed that the update could bring in the ability to pair multiple Apple Watch units on one iPhone.

It is worth noting that the watchOS 2.2 update for Apple Watch is still in its beta stage. It is also highly purported that this update will be rolled out to the public alongside the iOS 9.3 later within the year.

In the meantime, earlier this month, a report claimed the Apple Watch 2 might not yet be launched on March due to a few factors.

Previously, rumor is rife saying that the Apple's wearable device could be unveiled as early as March. However, recent rumor indicates that the hotly awaited Apple Watch 2 will not yet be launched in March.
