iPad iOS 9.2.1 Update: First Impressions

We've been using the iOS 9.2.1 update on three versions of the iPad: The iPad Air 2, the original iPad Air, and the iPad mini 2. It's still early but we want to relay our first impressions of the three updates. 

First, let's start with the installation process. iOS 9.2.1 is a small update and as such, it didn't take too long to download. A few minutes over a fast connection at the very most. The installation process took a little bit longer. 

We recommend setting aside 15 minutes of free time so that you can monitor the download, installation and the update's performance. You shouldn't need much more than that. 

The iOS 9.2.1 update is performing well on all three versions of the iPad, save for one problem on the iPad mini 2 that we'll get to in a second. 

Battery life is excellent across the board. Wi-Fi is fast and reliable. So is Bluetooth. We haven't run into any experience-breaking bugs and all of our apps are running fine with iOS 9.2.1 on board. 

While the iPad Air 2 and iPad Air UIs are both fast and fluid, we've noticed that the iPad mini 2 stutters when using a swipe to open up Control Center and the Notification Center. This is a problem that we saw on iOS 9.2 as well. 

It's more of an annoyance than anything but we're still hoping that it vanishes on its own later this week. Stay tuned. 

If you own a newer iPad on iOS 9, you should be fine with iOS 9.2.1. If you're on an older iOS update or you own an older iPad, you'll want to be a little more careful with iOS 9.2.1. Take a day or two and dig into additional feedback about your update. YouTube is a great place to start.
