The iPad iOS 9.2.1 update is here and today we want to take a look at the most important things to know about Apple's latest update for iPad with Retina, iPad Air, and iPad mini.

In December, Apple confirmed plans to release an iOS 9.2.1 update for the iPad. The iOS 9.2.1 beta revealed a number of important details about the iPad's iOS 9.2.1 update (features, the devices getting it) but it didn't reveal a specific release date.

Earlier this week, after several weeks of testing, Apple released the iPad iOS 9.2.1 update and it's now available for all iPad models capable of running the iOS 9 operating system.

iOS 9.2.1 isn't a big update for the iPad. It's a small incremental update that adds bug fixes and security patches for potential exploits. It might be small but there's actually a lot you need to know about Apple's latest upgrade.

With the dust from the release starting to settle a little bit, we want to take a look at the most important things to know about the iPad iOS 9.2.1 update today as we move away from Tuesday's release date.

This roundup looks at the iOS 9.2.1 jailbreak iOS 9.2.1 performance, and some of the smaller details that are sometimes easy to miss. Keep these in mind as we push into January toward Apple's next iOS 9 update.

We've been using the iOS 9.2.1 update on three versions of the iPad: The iPad Air 2, the original iPad Air, and the iPad mini 2. It's still early but we want to relay our first impressions of the three updates.

First, let's start with the installation process. iOS 9.2.1 is a small update and as such, it didn't take too long to download. A few minutes over a fast connection at the very most. The installation process took a little bit longer.

We recommend setting aside 15 minutes of free time so that you can monitor the download, installation and the update's performance. You shouldn't need much more than that.

The iOS 9.2.1 update is performing well on all three versions of the iPad, save for one problem on the iPad mini 2 that we'll get to in a second.

Battery life is excellent across the board. Wi-Fi is fast and reliable. So is Bluetooth. We haven't run into any experience-breaking bugs and all of our apps are running fine with iOS 9.2.1 on board.

While the iPad Air 2 and iPad Air UIs are both fast and fluid, we've noticed that the iPad mini 2 stutters when using a swipe to open up Control Center and the Notification Center. This is a problem that we saw on iOS 9.2 as well.

It's more of an annoyance than anything but we're still hoping that it vanishes on its own later this week. Stay tuned.

If you own a newer iPad on iOS 9, you should be fine with iOS 9.2.1. If you're on an older iOS update or you own an older iPad, you'll want to be a little more careful with iOS 9.2.1. Take a day or two and dig into additional feedback about your update. YouTube is a great place to start.
